Breathwork And Movement Programme For Schools
The Breathwork And Movement Programme For Schools is an easy, efficient, economical and effective tool for the mental health and wellbeing of children and adults created by Lesley Collinson.
This is an initiative to introduce real wellbeing practices into schools, ensure they are supported by well trained, skilled, specialists and that these practices are embedded into the school curriculum and extended to the wider community.
These practices have been adapted from Eastern traditions, yoga, meditation and qui gong. We appreciate and acknowledge their origins. Our intention is to share the wellbeing benefits of these practices in a way that is accessible for modern multi-faith and secular communities.
Children and adults learn about the power of the breath, how to move with the breath and use it as a tool for self-regulation, concentration, creativity, calming, relaxation and learning.
They learn to move joyfully with the breath, without competing or performing, in a way that feels good and at the same time develop skills of balance, coordination, stamina, strength and flexibility.
All children and staff have a weekly half hour session of Breathwork and Movement. Teachers learn easy breathing techniques ranging from 3 to 10 minutes long to use in the classroom as an effective tool for wellbeing and learning, an excellent behaviour for learning strategy, an enriching creative resource and by focusing children on the present moment, an efficient way to enhance concentration.
Using technology optimally broadens the reach of the programme and makes it economical, whilst acknowledging the importance of developing and strengthening relationships.
Inset And Staff Meetings For Breathwork And Movement Programmes
Creating a ‘wellbeing focused culture’ as promoted in the 2021 Wellbeing Charter can be achieved through providing these services for all those working in schools. Wellbeing Inset and staff meetings on Breathwork and inclusive movement send a strong message of taking mental and physical health in the work place seriously. Staff experience the practices and 100% feedback reports that all teachers would like to learn how to teach these techniques and use them in the classroom.
Breathwork And Movement Programme For Schools Assemblies
Whole school assemblies are a great way to introduce the whole school to breathing techniques, whether they are by zoom or in the hall. They can be once a term or once a week to embed the practices. If on zoom, schools can invite the parents and carers. Helping children and adults to learn how to relax, self-regulate, calm down and concentrate is essential for today’s world and the future.
Breathwork And Movement Programme For Home-School Links
We want these practices to be available to all; supporting families outside of school hours, to help with sleep, family bonds, strengthening emotional and social connections, building bridges and healthy connections to the school by extending the partnerships developed in the EYFS.
Families can log in to their unique google classroom and join in with the children in the live stream class or after school on the recorded sessions. Families and carers can also be supported during the school day with classes. This can work well at drop off and pick up, where family classes can be made available
